Twin Lakes is a set of connected pristine alpine lakes at the base of the southeastern slope of Mammoth Mountain near Bridgeport in Mono County California. To access Twin Lakes, you take Twin Lakes Road from Highway 395 in Bridgeport, for 10 miles to reach the start of the Twin Lakes Basin. Twin Lakes consists of two large alpine lakes at an elevation of 8,563 feet. Upper Twin Lake covers nearly 400 acres and Lower Twin Lake more than 250 acres. The large alpine lakes run along the Sawtooth Ridge and Sierra Crest, which divide the the Twin Lakes Basin from Yosemite National Park. This is an area often referred to as the California Alps.
