This represents a combined 178,046 acres of land for sale in New Jersey (accounting for about three percent of land in the state). The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $7 million, though the median price for land, ranches and rural property in New Jersey was $428,514. The average price of land listed for sale in New Jersey was $520,238. There was 22 acres of sold land in New Jersey recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the previous period. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $1.1 million. New Jersey holds more than a half-million acres of state-owned land available for outdoor recreation in a diverse landscape that spreads from hardwood ridges to pine forests to coastal marshlands. Of this, some 350, 000 acres reside within 121 wildlife management areas specially designated for wildlife and wildlife-related recreation. Garden State hunters enjoy over 100 days of deer hunting and season for bow and shotgun and muzzle-loading rifle hunts. New Jersey is one of the country's smallest states in terms of size, covering an area of 8,722 square miles (6 million acres). Of this area, 7,354 square miles (84 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 1,368 square miles is covered by water. Approximately 19 percent is considered public land such as national and state parks, national forestland or other federally protected land. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in New Jersey. Of the 21 counties in the state, Gloucester County had the most land for sale.
